The Family Background of von Stein Theobald
The family von Stein can trace it's family tree back to the 19th century. During this time Karl von Stein founded a trading company in Prussia. The company started with distributing goods from the harbours of the Baltic Sea to all major towns and markets in Prussia. After the first years the company bought their first own ship and from then on the business prospered.When the colonization of other planets started in 2108 it did not take long before the von Steins were involved in interstellar trade. In 2250 the family left earth for good and took part in the colonization of Graceland. They founded a city and named it after the birthplace of their oldest known relative - Plausen, in East-Prussia.
When in 2235 the Tamar Pact was created, Graceland was among it's founding planets. In 2340 Kevin Tamar invited the Federation of Sky and the Protectorat of Donegal for talks concerning the possibility of uniting. Among his advisors was the head of the von Stein family, Friedrich von Stein.
After the foundation of the Lyrian Commonwealth the political influence of the von Stein's constantly diminished, the location of Graceland being to unimportant, and this planet was the only one the family had political claims on.
In contradiction to the political situation, the economic constantly grew. The business went well and the business extended constantly to more planets. It did not take long, before the von Stein family was well known in business circles throughout the whole Commonwealth.
Besides the influence on the business community the von Stein family gained influence in another aspect of the Commonwealth: The military.
The son of Friedrich von Stein, Herrmann, was the first of the family to join the newly founded LCAF. Having commanded the militia of Graceland, he entered the LCAF as an officer and was from the beginning involved in the strategic planning concerning the defense of the Commonwealth's border against possible attacks by the Draconis Combine. Being a clever minded man, it not long before he was made responsible for this theater.
From then on the von Stein's involvement in the LCAF constantly grew. Nearly every male and many female members of the family served in the ranks of the LCAF, many becoming officers. This led to the situation that the family business is run mostly by the women of the family and the retired soldiers nowadays. But this proved to be no drawback, as both the military and the business influence grew.
