Brothers of Revenge

Galatea, , 3040-03-11

It was a rude awakening as Brian O'Kelly noticed problems on wiretapping military communication. Hod1 got up fast and met O'Kelly. Our monitoring camera showed three ComStar members outside and as they handad over a class a message from the Semiprecentor everyones time of sleep was suddenly over. Adresser abbot Masallo d'Unero made some of us wish to never sleep again, fearing nightmares of his piercing sight. He threatened us, that our time would be running out. Although he was sorry that he could not be present at our imminent defeat, there were 20 mechs in a distance of three to four kilometres. This was reason enough for O'Kelly to come out. So he told us that he was scouting our talent for Wolf Dragoons and that he himself had a 'Mech to support us in our next battle before he would be going to leave and return to his unit. We did not notice his 'Mech being of a superior technology, but thought it was only his abilities and not three Ultra-AC/10 with a targeting computer.

The first wave contained ten Battlemechs and a helicopter of 30 tons. We were facing an Exterminator, a Commando, a Clint, a Javelin, a Crusader, an Ostroc, an Ostsol, an Archer, a Lancelot and a Hermes2.
Ye dishonourables. Let my voice be heard. Brother Placid has come to liberate all of their sufferings. Ye all will soon be found in another condition.

We were too busy with starting our 'Mechs to give an answer to his pathetic words and decided to respond to it on the battlefield. The Javelin was our first victim and ejected after heavy fire of HOD Leader and hod7.
Their reply did not take much time either. The second wave gave notice of an arrival of another ten 'Mechs.
Brother Admonish and the penitents guard are here to seek and find those who have gone astray.

Maybe we shuold have told him, that there was no way to accept that, but we were surprised by three Land-Air-Battlemechs. It was the penitents vanguard fielding two Lash of Purification-LAMs and a Stinger-LAM. hod4 shot the Hermes2 down as the second wave finally arrived. Two Wild Crabs, an altered construction of the Crab with two claws, a Warhammer, an improved Wolverine, a Mauler, an Iron Monk and a Rhinozeros were completing the enemys superiority. This was the time for our female 'Mechwarrior in our Banshee, we had hired for trying out with our mercenary unit to show what her abilities were. First she kicked the Clint, laying him down, then she took on the Ostsol hitting with the Gauss Rifle in the head and finished with another close combat with the Clint removing the other leg and took him out of battle. hod1 destroyed the Crusader, which blew apart in a big explosion, forcing the Commando to eject, as his 'Mech was no more able to fire any weapons. hod2 took the Apache helicopter down and hod4 forced a shutdown of the Hermes2 with some critical hits on its engine. Then the Rhinoceros presented its firepower. Three sudden gauss rifle shots were too much for the Banshee and it dropped to the ground as hod4 melted the shutdown Hermes2's head away with some medium lasers. Our other trainee forced the Archer to give our Banshee company in the dirt and by that time we noticed why we were not under LRM fire yet. It was the same model, we had already seen in our arena battle with a rear-mounted autocannon/20. HOD-2 erased the Ostroc, forcing another explosion with some secondary damage at hod1, HOD-7 and the Banshee. On enemys side it was the Wolverine, the Exterminator and the Archer suffering damage, the latter losing his feared autocannon. HOD-3 joined the fireworks as he caused the Exterminator to burst, what resulted in even more damage to the Archers internals, so its LRM ammunition detonated, leaving the prone Banshee defenceless. But she was not the only pilot ejecting. HOD Leader also was unable to fight with his 'Mech and was taken to our headquarter by our hovers. HOD-3 unleashed an alpha strike at the Lancelot who could not keep his balance and fell to the ground. HOD-7 brought us good salvage as he turned off one of the Wild Crabs with several critical engine hits. Eventually Brian O'Kelly arrived with his devastating Battlemech and engaged with the Rhinoceros. As HOD-3 finished his work on the Lancelot, one of the Leaders - Brother Placid - was taken out of action, but we were still on the verge of defeat as long as the Rhinoceros, the Mauler and the LAMs were not destroyed.

Almost at the same time hod7 ripped the engine of the Wolverine apart and Brian O'Kelly unleashed a load of ammunition on the Rhinoceros, which lost one gauss rifle due to the Wolverines explosion. O'Kelly emerged victorious of the short but fierce fight and it was the first time we got a smell of victory during this battle. Then hod7 was the next one to leave, as he ejected for the purpose of saving his 'Mech for more battles to come. Another backlash was the shutdown of hod5's Longbow on his return to base. Although we got one of our new pilots ready to go with our Wolverine and O'Kelly clearing the battlefield, as he dropped one of the LAMs to the ground, the enemy was prevailing again. Next victim within our lines was hod4, as the remaining Wild Crab wrecked one leg of the Grasshopper and hod4 lost control. It was just in time, that Hod1 and Hod2 got their backup 'Mechs started, a Battlemaster and the well-known Catapult. Only a few seconds later Brian O'Kelly was taken out of action by the Mauler, losing both of his legs and HOD-3 last man standing sustained too many critical hits on the engine in crossfire of the Warhammer and Stinger-LAM, implying end of combat for him because we had all backup 'Mechs assigned with hod7 heading for the King Crab. hod4 continued playing "ten little indians" and left his prone 'Mech. Our 'Mech hangars were depleted as hod7 fielded the King Crab. In a ferocious fight
our Wolverine shredded the other Wild Crab, Hod1 untangled us with the annihilation of the Mauler, but got unconcious after several SRM-hits to his 'Mechs head. The engine burst of the Mauler bestowed us our first LAM salvage, if we should emerge victorious because one Lash of Purification was standing near the assault 'Mech. The Battlemaster was also shut down, something Hod1 did not recognize as he already passed out. Hod2 was unlucky with his Catapult and had to eject before doing decisive damage.

Now it was King Crab, Axeman and Wolverine against Warhammer, Iron Monk and two LAMs. Major damage by autocannon/20 shots forced the Warhammer to the ground and our minds wanted to celebrate victory, but this was another case of "don't count your chickens before they are hatched". hod7 joined hod1 in unconciousness and the Iron Monk turned out to be a master in stunning pilots. The massive King Crab fell down and our hopes in winning this battle dropped down even harder. Just until the Iron Monk got stunned himself by our Wolverine, this time not the pilot but the engine. We still had one bullet left in our gun and made use of our hover tanks. They did not do very much damage, but as Hod5 teared the Warhammer apart the remaining two LAMs immobilized one hover and then retreated.

The engagement with Asmodean was very tough, but this battle cannot be compared to any battle we fought before. We were not used to defend ourselves yet and just escaped the grim reaper by a hairbreadth. Although we were able to breathe a sigh of relief now, there was something we have not forgotten. Commander of urban militia did not care about us, but got the praise for defeating the intruders. Time will tell whether he will pay for that or pay for that badly.
