Pay the Bill - Pay a Visit

Caldarium, , 3040-04-14

We needed a couple of days to sift through the wreckage and another couple of days to refurbish our base, where we spant extra money to make it look even better than before. The 'Mech shortage in our last battle lead us to an extended 'Mech pool. We bought an Imp as secondary 'Mech for our Leader and a Rifleman III for HOD-3, who prefered to use it as its first choice, keeping the devastating Dreadnought as an evenly matched backup.

Searching for new missions and seeking revenge concerning the demeanour of urban militia, we were noticed by General Boskop, that LOKI discovered Asmodeans headquarters on a planet called Caldarium. We got extra information, that we would have to deal with tropical terrain and that most of them are temporary not attendant. It was estimated, that about forty 'Mechs were still remaining and they offered us 50% salvage rights. After short time of negotiation they provided 60% salvage and we got 10,000,000.- c-notes paid in advance, another 10,000,000.- should follow by completion of our task. As secondary objective they dangled another 30,000,000.- c-notes for the destruction or heavy damaging of El Irma stronghold, the home of Asmodeans forces. This offer we could not reject and so we got off to Caldarium.

Soon after we had left the Overlord dropship they told us they had to abandon us because of heavy long tom fire. So they headed back into the orbit and we stood alone with our six 'Mechs. Hodleader in his Victor, HOD-2 in his Catapult, HOD-3 testing the Rifleman III, HOD-4 in his grasshopper, HOD-5 in her axeman and finally another female trainee in the Banshee. The first enemy we engaged were not asmodeanic.
Thou who have dared to put thy feet on this ground, let me show ye the path to turn things around. Brother Candid advises ye to leave this
private property.

Hodleader responded in a short but provocative way.
We have come for repentance.

Lacking a sense of humour, Brother Candid threatened us.
Thy folly will soon be fading. Ye all will turn around or we will turn ye off.

The conversation ended with a reply by our leader and the emergence of four enemy 'Mechs accompanied by two heavy tanks.
You will regret that.

The adverse lance consisted of a Battlemaster, a Dreadnought, an Iron Monk, a Marauder, piloted by Brother Candid, and a Schreck and Rhino tank.
Brother Candid prepared a last call for leaving as HOD-3 eliminated the first tank with two large lasers, stunning the crew. The other tank did not last longer as our trainee destroyed the Schreck.
Suddenly a raspy voice resounded battle radio.
Hahahaharbingerrrrs of defeat. All hail, you fools.

Then HOD-5 got a perfect hit on the Battlemaster, removing one arm, unfortunately not those carrying two PPCs. The next hit on the stunned Rhino came from HOD-2 and led to an ammunition explosion followed by a great ball of fire. This damaged HOD-5's Axeman, especially the upper parts of armor. Hod5 seemed to enjoy bathing in fireballs as she crushed the Dreadnought, taking further damage by its explosion. Our Banshee got us some salvage, as she defeated the Battlemaster. Hod2 and HOD-4 had done their part in that one and concentrated on the Iron Monk, a chassis we had still in mind as being very dangerous in short range battle. But it was our trainee again taking the crucial hits. So this one was taken out of battle either. In the meantime HOD Leader and HOD-3 had their fight against the Marauder, a model with two PPCs and a gauss rifle. As HOD-3 missed several shots with his own gauss rifles at start of the battle, he finally managed the transition from lb-x to gauss as he prevented a successful escape of Brother Candid. After he found himself without any support he had tried to betake himself to flight, but he did not reckon our long range firepower. His 'Mech blew apart in another explosion, so we had a Battlemaster claimed by hod4 as new primary chassis and an Iron Monk for salvage.
