Going Deeper Underground

Caldarium, , 3040-04-25

Our Dropship was ready to touch down after we could clear the area of foes. During last battle HOD-3 had spotted something he could not identify. Some of the rocks had a finished shape and so we took a closer look. It was the entrance to Asmodeans stronghold. The captives told us of a system of caves leading to El Irma. Additional information we got, was that there are motion detectors installed, sometimes they train for battle in the caves and that it has an average height of eighteen meters.

So our leader got his first deployment with the Imp, HOD-2 took the King Crab, HOD-3 turned to his Dreadnought, HOD-4 our old Battlemaster, as the salvaged one was not ready and HOD-5 used the Banshee, which was very successful in previous fights. We entered the caves and before we spotted any enemy we had to detach because of a junction. HOD-4 and HOD-5 went straight and HOD Leader, HOD-2 and HOD-3 turned right. This time it were warriors of Asmodeans guard and HOD-4 and HOD-5 were the first ones who engaged in combat. An Axeman and an Ostsol blocked the way and another 'Mech was detected, but the Rifleman had a lake between him and them, so he decided to support the 'Mech HOD Leader and HOD-2 encountered. HOD-3 was sent for support of HOD-4 and HOD-5 by HOD Leader as it was supposed they could deal with one 'Mech on their own. So HOD-3 could improve in potholing while HOD Leader and HOD-2 fired at the Dire Griffin. HOD-4 and HOD-5 found themselves suddenly surrounded, as a Razor Fire, a Battlemech carrying a bunch of machine guns and small lasers got in their back. The Dire Griffin was the first victim. HOD-2 forced him to the caves ground and although a Hunchback arrived to assist his time was up. HOD-2 kicked the damaged leg into pieces and HOD Leader destroys the Dire Griffin completely. HOD-4 was successful in combat against the Axeman, taking it out of battle with a devastating alpha strike. After that the Hunchback got its moment of surprise. It was a special model carrying not only one autocannon/20. He unleashed both autocannons in rapid fire at HOD-2, hitting half of his shots. HOD-2 takes revenge, kicking him into a blast of fire. The damage from the explosion should haunt HOD-2 later and HOD Leader got a little damage, too. Developing a predilection for cave paintings HOD-3 arrived as reinforcement for HOD-4 and HOD-5. This time it was him getting the freeloaders medal, as he needed only a pair of lb-x autocannon shots and a PPC on the Razor Fire to take him out. HOD-5 also shot at the Razor Fire and the extra damage led to a reactor explosion, what turned out to be very devastating in the cave. Suddenly the Ostsol was wrecked, our Battlemaster was destroyed and the Banshee shut down. Because there were no enemy in this part of the cave HOD-3 felt like a speleologist heading back to HOD Leader and HOD-2, where the Rifleman accompanied by a Marauder fielded the remaining enemy forces. HOD Leader removed one arm of the Marauder, but the Marauder got a lucky shot at HOD-2 damaging its gyro. HOD-2 nevertheless managed to kill the Marauder after he hit the ground. He had not seen, what consequences the explosion of the Razor Fire had, so he perceived it himself. His already prone King Crab was destroyed and luckily it did not explode, as this may have saved his life. Three 'Mechs were left, one enemy Rifleman, HOD Leader with the minor damaged imp and HOD-3 in an unscathed Dreadnought. It was only a matter of time for the Rifleman to lose this battle and it was a matter of time, if HOD-3 could get even the freeloaders cup. HOD Leader was quick enough and demolished the Rifleman a few seconds before HOD-3 could unleash an anticipated alpha strike. The Rifleman also exploded, but all 'Mechs were in a distance, where they took no damage from this anymore.
