Attack on Knol Island Military Base

Leximon, Marian Hegemony, 3038-07-03

When we arrived on Knol Island an Urban Mech, Mongoose, Hermes II, Javelin, Hornet and Mercury converged on the beach, alarmed by our dropship landing several kilometers in front of the coast.

Lt. Coal of the Intruders 'welcomed' us and after we exchanged some 'nice words' for each other over the radio our first skirmish of this campaign began.

Soon after we started our advance HOD-3 spotted a hidden Harasser hover tank in a nearby wood, but that vehicle's crew was immediately killed by a blast of the large laser of HOD-3's Flashman.

As we neared the light enemy 'Mechs I manoeuvered into a good position and let loose with all my armament towards the Hermes II. Although all the heat warning lights went berserk in my cockpit and the sweat was running through my vision I happily smiled: all weapons hit, causing several critical hits on the engine and gyro of the 'Mech as well as an arm. The 'Mech fell from the brunt of the attack, damaging it's leg which caused another critical hit and destroyed a leg actuator.

Being totally distracted by my success a was catched with my pants down by the Javelin, who hit me with four medium lasers. I in turn also fell with my 'Mech and was lightly wounded.

HOD-4 softened the armor of the Mongoose's leg up with his lasers before kicking it thus reducing it to a heap of metal. The Mongoose joined the 'Mechs lying on the ground.

While we continued to reduce the enemy 'Mechs to Hulks a Crusader appeared and disclosed his identity as 'Pete'. At the same time a Warrior Helicopter appeared and started to rain missiles on HOD-3.

Finally I destroyed the center torso of the Hermes II with a shot of my PPC.

When 'Pete' opened Fire on the UrbanMech he was curst at from Coal, who was several hundred meters behind him in his Hatchetman and had been sure that the arrival of the Crusader turned the tide in his favour.

In the north another hovercraft appeared, but we were not able yet to recognize its type.

HOD-3 jumped over to my position and smashed the Mercuries leg with a kick, which send the Mercury sprawling to the floor.

Pete and Cole duelled, but obviously Cole was to angry as all his shots went wide. Pete in return did hit the Hatchetman and softened up its armor.

The Mongoose was finally delivered from his sufferings by my two PPCs, HOD-4 finished off the Javelin and HOD-3 riddled the Mercury that lay in front of him with bullets before he kicked his head of.

A Saracen hover tank emerged from the military base and entered the fray. When the unidentified hover neared HOD-3 he frantically tried to evade him as he recognized him as an Saladin - a tank with an autocannon/20 - unfortunately he felt the full brunt of this weapon which penetrated his arm and destroyed his shoulder actuator.

Then the tank proceeded to attack HOD-4 and nearly tore his right arm of but was in turn hit by the Shadow Hawk's left arm which sent it running.

But soon it came back, its still dazzled crew fortunately not hitting anyone.

On the other side of the battlefield the Crusader of Pete slugged it out with Coal in his Hatchetman and the UrbanMech but nothing important happened there.

Finally I stood in a good position and let loose with both of my PPCs, one hit the Saladin in the side and burned right through it.

Cole thought better of continuing the fight with most of his units knocked off and tried to escpae but was pursuited by HOD-2 and HOD-4.

When the Stinger tried to hurt my 'Mech some more he made the error to land in front of me - which resulted in a well placed kick and a lost leg for the Stinger.

Cole sprinted away at the fastest pace possible and the pilots of the UrbanMech and the Stinger ejected feeling left alone by their commander.

HOD-4 continued to run after Coel and made up leeway. When he passed the Docks he detected a submarine that was anchored there but was deserted.

As Coel was not able to outrun HOD-4 he hid in the warehouse area. While Pete, HOD-3 and HOD-4 looked for him, I entered the base area and called in the infantry and our Techs.

In one of the 'Mech hangars we found the shut down Hatchetman, but of Coal there was no trace.

We had the infantry secure the command post of the installation, where we made some prisoners. We the set up quarters there (A on the map).

The whole complex teemed with enemy infantry and Techs and with our 30 infantry men we were not able to secure the whole complex.

After we secured our small perimeter we collected the 'Mechs we shot down and put them in the 'Mech hangars (C on the map). There we also found an Assassin, Cicada and Whitworth. Our Techs manipulated the submarine's motor so that it could not be driven away.

I detailed two of our 'Mechs at a time to guard our part of the complex and I made a SitRep to HQ. They told us to hold the base for 9 days. After this time Drop Ships of the infantry regiment (which had currently duties somwhere else) would arrive and either secure the base permanently or transport everything we found there another secured base.

So we made ourselves comfortable and startet to repair our 'Mechs. In the base we found plenty of supply for that.

This evening HOD-2 arrived with his Catapult to reinforce our position. He was dropped from a drop ship that flew reinforcements to another sector. The other HODs were still needed as guards at the main bridge head.
